Happy Easter Holidays

Happy Easter Holidays!

We’re one third of the way through the year and what a year it has been so far. I’ve never been so focused and driven to get my business to the goals I have set, to expand. A part of this is due to my relationship coming to an end, where I was a step father to three beautiful kids for year 4 years. It’s taken a big toll on me, and recovery is a long road, but I have the help of an excellent psychologist to give me the tools I need. I’ve ridded myself of all my distractions, and now have two focuses; work and music.

My first focus is building up commercial window cleaning work to the point that all day to day expenses and business expenses are covered by on going recurring commercial work, providing more financial security. Weekly to monthly recurring work is my main drive. Residential work as great as it is, will never give security of income as its dependent on whether the client is willing or able to pay, and much of this work is affected by the economical conditions of the environment. So I am flat out hustling more commercial work, and have built a calculator that ill hopefully be able to incorporate into my website, to allow both residential and commercial clients a like to count their glass and get an instant ball park quote via my website. This is something I haven’t seen any other window cleaners do and I’m excited about the prospect here.

The quoting calculator gives a variety of options from squeegee and ladder work which provides the high end premium finishes, to the purified water machine treatment. The calculator gives a whole range of options, which essentially provides discounted rates for recurring on going cleaning, allowing residential clients the option to have year round clean windows for a fraction of the price they’d usually pay.

My second focus is my music. As some of you may know, I’ve been a musician in hiding for many years, and in recent times I have been putting myself out there. I now run the open mic night at the republic bar every Tuesday evening, showcasing my own works but also building connections and an evening of entertainment, in a caring and supportive environment. Never have I been so motivated to share my experience with others. I have a few pieces of equipment yet to attain, but given the nature of musical equipment, they’re very expensive pieces that I’m saving up for. You may see me busking around town these days, and if you do see me, know this; your time for 5 minutes is far more important to me than a few dollars. I work full time, busking for me is sharing my experience, and when people stop and listen, it makes other people feel comfortable to stop and listen.

Anyhow, enough waffle from me. I have set some big goals for the next 12 months, and given the growth I’ve had in the last three, I think I’m going to smash it through the park. If you’re looking for a quote, lets chat and come to an arrangement that works for both of us - thats the beauty of small business.

I wish all of you a happy Easter, and hope you all stay safe on the roads travelling around. Whatever the occasion, slowing down the race to the finish, to spend time with family and friends is what it is all about.

All the best and I’ll see you next week, helping Tasmanian’s appreciate their Tasman view, one window at a time.

Best Wishes

The google business dilemma.

On the 29th of July 2022, our business profile was removed from the google listings for breaking the guidelines.

When our business transferred from New South Wales to Tasmania, some details and loose ends were not tied up which caused and eventual domino affect on our business. One year after transferring to Tasmania and fully closing shop in New South Wales, our business profile still had not showed up in Tasmania. To counteract this, we listed our personal address on our google profile. This allowed our profile to begin being found in Tasmania such that we could pick up new work.

3 years later, through tying up loose ends, messaging websites that have misleading information regarding our business, our business was reported for not having an actual ‘walk in address’. Realising where the problem had started, we rectified the issue and asked for a reinstatement.

Long story short, google responded two weeks later with “still breaks the guidelines”. They then unsuspended our business for three hours, duplicated our business profile, and then suspended both profiles. 8 weeks later, multiple emails, reinstatement request, calls for help, we couldn’t get in contact with google. A long 8 weeks of going from a top 3 business in Tasmania having over 4000 monthly hits, to near 0 monthly hits.

Eventually a community member reached out to help, and the process finally made its way into the hands of a google representative who had answers.

It turns out our business was still ‘technically’ listed in NSW as our ABN had not been updated to suit new state. Also, the duplicated business counted as a violation against googles rules (which I’d not even created).

10 weeks it took to have our business return to the light of google.

A big takeaway from this was realising building an online presence on google and relying on that for new work isn’t viable when you have family. I spent the two months upgrading the business, so I could come back bigger, better and faster. Many lessons were learnt, but when times get difficult, the fruits are floral and growth is imminent.

Goals for the New Financial Year

Having moved to Tasmania in the late half of 2019 with the intention of visiting for one year, I spent my first year working with Glide windows and taking on no personal clients. Since deciding to settle in Hobart, I’ve spent the last two years building my own business down here. Safe to say I’ve had an incredible run, and this financial year is looking very promising for the opportunity to expand.

This year, we’re looking to:

expand our business and take on more cleaning technicians. We realise that many of our clients appreciate both a quality finish, in a timely manner. A team of 3 will deliver high quality finishes in small time windows. Giving you as little hassle as possible.

Upload DIY videos on our website. On top of expanding, we want to help you understand how to look after your windows, knowing not everyone can afford a window cleaner. Expect to see videos on how to get exceptional results on your own on our website this year.

offer products we recommend and use on a daily basis, through our website. As it sounds, we want to give you our recommendations on the gear we use, and give you the opportunity to buy directly through our website.

incorporate a D-I-Y purified water system installation service to allow clients access to purified water for multiple uses. Purified water has multiple uses. It gives the capacity for an industry standard finish on your windows, but also your vehicles. You may have seen "‘spot free rinse” at car washes? Same thing!

We’re looking at offering a package to install a base kit DI tank + accessories at your home, so you can have access to purified water year round. Depending on the system installed and the amount of use, the neutraliser resin will need replacing within the DI units depending on the amount of use and size of tank installed. This will be offered as a service where we replace and recycle your old resin.
